This is one of the fat soluble vitamins, others include vitamin D, E,and K. It naturally occurs as carotenoids (provitamin A) in plants. Vitamin A exists in other forms as retinal, retinol (animal origin), retanoic acid.

Since Vitamin A is fat soluble vitamins it should not be taken in excess as it can cause, nausea, irritability, anorexia (reduced appetite), vomiting, blurry vision, headaches, hair loss, muscle and abdominal pain and weakness, drowsiness, and altered mental status, liver toxicity.
